Every great movement begins with a seed of faith. For Crossfire co-founder Randy Shepherd, that seed was planted in 1990, right after graduating from UNC Asheville. With a basketball in his hand and a prayer in his heart, Randy asked the Lord for an opportunity: “Lord, I want to have a basketball camp where I can teach youngsters all the way up to college prospects the game of basketball — and share Christian principles with them every single day.”

The Lord answered that prayer. A gym was provided, the vision was set, and Randy set a goal of 100 campers. To his amazement, 175 showed up. The gym could barely contain the kids, much less their parents. Yet God moved mightily — and that first camp ended with over 100 young people giving their hearts and lives to Jesus Christ.

The following year, moms started asking about a girls’ camp. So they launched one. That summer, 65 girls and 240 boys filled the gyms, hungry for basketball and for the truth of God’s Word. What began as one young man’s dream quickly grew into a powerful ministry, shaping athletes and future leaders on and off the court.

Over the years, Randy shared countless stories of these camps, describing how drills, competition, and daily devotionals wove together into life-changing experiences. Though Randy has since gone home to be with the Lord, the seed of faith he planted continues to grow. Today, the Crossfire team carries forward that same mission — using basketball to teach skills, build character, and point players to Christ, both locally and around the world.

We invite you to pray with us, volunteer with us, and support the ministry as the Lord leads. Together, we’ll keep the vision alive and watch God continue to change lives through Crossfire Basketball Camps.
